Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• As a qualified and RTITB/CITB registered instructor, may I clear the confusion over lorry loader operator training.

The CITB scheme is not a statutory requirement, but it is strongly supported by the construction industry and you could be refused entry to construction sites without one.

In response to P Moore (CM 5-11 March): have you asked the HSE if they will accept your John Bull certificates? Training should only be carried out by a competent person trained for that purpose.

I would agree with Jean Watson (CM 5-11 March). Employers should be reminded that under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 they have a statutory duty to provide adequate instruction and training for all employees.

I would suggest that everyone reads the HSC's policy statement on health and safety training, publication ING(G)106(L), which is available free from the HSE.
