Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Notwithstanding the great development of the tractor industry in the United States, America is purchasing increasing numbers of foreign agrimotors. In 1936, 2,374 tractors, valued at £230,743, were imported, as against 1,344 machines (£132,449) in the preceding year.

Driving-test Fee Reduced.

The Minister of Transport has reduced the fee for a driving test from 7s. 6d. to 5s. Where the test concerns an agricultural tractor, a mowing machine or a vehicle controlled by a pedestrian, the fee is 2s. 6d.

A Tuning Service.

Crypton Equipment, Ltd., North Acton Road, Park Royal, London, N.W.10, has published an interesting handbook entitled "Maintaining New Car Performance." It deals with the 'Test Tune " maintenance service introduced by this company, by which, for a fee of a few shillings, experts will retune the engine, test for compression and power, check and adjust the electrical and other auxiliaries, inspect brakes, shock absorbers, wheel alignment, etc. The company will supply this handbook, of 35 pages, at 6d. to cover postage and distribution.

London Borough's Big Road-lighting Scheme.

Lambeth Borough Council is to illuminate the whole of its 34i miles of streets in its southern area by electric-discharge lamps, a contract having been placed with the South London Electric Supply Corporation, Ltd. Osira lamps of 400 watts and 250 watts are to be installed, whilst the General Electric Co., Ltd., will also supply the Di-Fractor lanterns and other equipment.

Barr Employees Entertained.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barr, of Leeds, recently entertained the employees of the Barr group of road-transport companies, and their wives and families, when a party numbering nearly 200 people enjoyed a coach outing to the Yorkshire Dales. GAS LORRY AS AUXILIARY FIRE-ENGINE.

A new lorry for Portsmouth Gas Co. was used, last week, to demonstrate a fire-fighting auxiliary-pump system designed, in consultation with the local authorities. by Messrs. J. H. Sparshatt and Sons, Hilsea Garages, Portsmouth. The lorry can be converted into a 1,000-gallon tanker, and powerful jets, with a throw Of about 80 ft., are operated through a Gwynne pump driven off the gearbox.

More "Second-hands" From America.

Last year, 439 second-hand vans, lorries and buses, valued at £37,679, were exported from the United States, compared with 269 vehicles (£25,209) in 1935.
