By Chris Tindall AN EDDIE Stobart driver has pleaded guilty to two counts of arson after the haulier launched an investigation with Scania into suspicious truck ires.

Ronald Alexander Day, 53, of Winsford, appeared before Macclesield magistrates on Friday 23 September and has now been remanded in custody.

He will be sentenced at Chester Crown Court, although a date has not yet been set.

Day was charged with arson following an incident at Stobart’s yard in Chelford on 15 September, in which a tractor unit was set on ire.

Cheshire police also charged him with a similar offence at a yard in South Mimms, Hertfordshire, on 13 June.

A spokesman for Stobart says the haulier had, before the arrest, conducted an investigation into the recent spate of truck ires associated with Scania tractor units in its leet.

He added that, once it became apparent that it was arson, “Eddie Stobart worked in full co-operation with Cheshire Constabulary to bring a speedy resolution to the matter” .
