Its latest publication on road transport highlights scores of operators struggling due to falling sales and high levels of debt.
But Plimsoll also names its top 25 hauliers based on the way they boost profits and turnover without risking their futures by excessive borrowing. Senior analyst David Pattison says: "These are really the companies you would do well to have as customers or to be doing business with. If you are looking to see how a road haulage company should perform, then look no further than these."
The top 25 hauliers include Chester-based Great Bear Distribution and Leicestershire-based Fred Sherwood & Sons (Transport).
