Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SURREY POLICE warn that rising fuel prices will lead to an increase in diesel theft.

Drivers are reminded to be vigilant following eight incidents of diesel theft in the past six weeks; live from a lay-by on the A22 near Caterham and three from haulage yards.

In the most recent incident, in Edenbridge, offenders entered the yard of a haulage company during the night of 12-13 September and siphoned off £1,000 worth of diesel from three parked vehicles.

DI Paul Monk says: "Always lock your fuel caps and if the vehicle is left unattended in a yard overnight then, if possible, make sure it is secured.

If not we recommend you leave it somewhere where it can be easily seen by passers by. The offenders are not opportunist thieves; they know where to look and need the right equipment to carry it out."'
