Tacho-fiddling father and son are jailed

A TAC110-FIDDLING, lorry-driving father and son have been jailed after they pleaded guilty to clocking up 36 false tachograph records.

At Ipswich Crown Court on 16 October, 57-year-old HGV driver Colin Linder was sentenced to six months in prison and given a 12-month driving ban for knowingly making 20 false records.

Linder's 37-year-old son, Sean Newson, was given a four-month jail sentence for falsifying 16 tacho records.

According to VOSA records, the 0-licence belonged to Colin P Linder Haulage, but Newson was the CPC holder for the licence, and he allowed his name to be used on the tacho records.

The judge said Newson had a "misguided loyalty towards his father and warned that those who permit their names to be used on tacho records by others will face a custodial sentence.

No costs were incurred by either perpetrator iwing to their financial circumstances.
