• BRS Engineering has quietly opened the second Servicentre depot in its proposed nationwide thirdparty engineering network, (CM 3-9 September), following the £500,000 refurbishment of its workshops at Watford.

The updated workshop, at the BRS Balmoral Road complex, has five light-vehicle bays and five triple-HGV bays capable of handling up to 15 trucks and vans. Among equipment on site is a roller brake tester, bodywork repair and spray booth, tachograph service bay and two recovery vehicles.

The Watford depot joins BRS Engineering's Swindon branch as its second Servicentre location. They will eventually form part of a 30site Servicentre network which will spearhead BRS Engineering's attack on thirdparty truck service and maintenance market. BRS Engineering project manager David Smyth, says that it has been able to coincide planned refurbishment of Watford with its launch as a Servicentre outlet.

The plan to open a total of four Servicentres during November, however, has now been revised, reports Smyth.

Smyth says the "official" launch of Watford as a Servicentre site plus three other depots (possibly including the BRS Engineering sites at Sheffield and Nottingham) will go ahead in the new year. According to Smyth "as soon as we get into multi-locations, we shall name names".

Feedback from the pilot Servicentre depot at Swindon has been good, claims Smyth: "The leads we have been able to develop have been most encouraging". BRS is continuing to research the market before its major Servicentre launch next year.
