Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

new model specifications for my fleet replacements I came across the expression —a traction ratio of 3,5 to 1". Exposing my ignorance for all to see, just what is a traction ratio?

AUsing the 3.5 to 1 ratio you mentioned, this means that the gross weight of the vehicle must not exceed 3.5 x the drive axle limit. With the present 10-ton axle this effectively limits the total weight to 35 tons This 3.5 to 1 figure is included in the recommendations for harmonising the EEC regulations, but whether they will come in their present form is a different matter as another of the recommendations goes for a maximum weight of 42 tonnes (41.3 tons)!

If the proposed 11-tonne (10.8-ton) axle weight is accepted, the 3.5 ratio permits a gross weight on four axles of 38.5 tonnes (37.9 tons).
