Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : The Lads, Labor

I keep reading about this tachograph business. I can understand the employers' complaint about the cost of retro fit. That's what they say when they mean fitting to existing vehicles.

What I-can't understand is the union's complaint. We've heard it from Jack Jones and Jackson Moore, Alan Law and Alex Kitson, but what is the complaint?

"It's a spy," they say. "Spying on what?" The lads," they reply. "Have the lads got something to hide?" "Certainly not," they say. "Then whyl" It's the principle."

If we carry this thing to its logical conclusion we'll throw out time clocks, foremen, editors and directors. Here, do you think that's likely?

If the complaint is really that the lads can't fiddle their hours, why doesn't somebody say so. If they need more money then there's a simple solution: give them more in exchange for them accepting the tacho. What about starting the bidding at i27.50 a week? We'll probably finish up at £10.00.
