Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE FIRST of two MAN 16 232FD drawbar outfits has now entered service with Hull Ships Stores Co Ltd. The two vehicles are being supplied by Ash Grove Motor Engineers Ltd which is the MAN dealer in Hull.

The unit which features a luxury twin bunk sleeper cab incorporates a York XDIOM third axle, special load transfer system, and jack-knife sensing device for the drawbar trailer. This device operates a warning light and intermittent buzzer in the cab should the trailer come within danger of fouling the rear end of the vehicle during manoeuvring operations.

Plated at 38 tonnes (37.4 tons) the MAN will be used for transporting ships' stores throughout Europe and is fitted with a Kysor air conditioning plant.

Powered by the MAN D2556 MXF in line six diesel engine, it develops 173 kW (232bhp) at 2,300rpm and 850Nm (6281b ft) torque at 1,300rpm. Transmission specification comprises a MAN heavy duty hub reduction rear axle, 420mm (16.5in) dia single-dry-plate clutch and ZF six-speed constant mesh gearbox with splitter to provide 12 forward and two reverse speeds.

Fitted with a Thermo King refrigeration pack, the insulated chassis body incorporates a moveable internal insulated front bulkhead. This can provide low temperature load areas in front of the bulkhead from 2.4 to 5.5m (8ft to 18ft) in length.

The whole area of internal space can be utilized for a complete load of low temperature goods. This allows the operator to vary the capacity of the low temperature area dependent on the amount of low temperature foodstuff required by a ship. Access to the front of the bulkhead is by a side loading door. A 1.5 ton capacity Ratcliff tail lift is fitted to the rear.

The drawbar trailer portion of the combination is a York Freightmaster chassisless van fitted with York running gear and Jost ball-bearing turntable. The van is not insulated but is fully lined and both the unit and trailer are fitted with loadlock rails.

The trailer crossmembers are at 305mm (12in) centres and the hardwood flooring in the trailer is constructed to allow the use of a fork-lift truck inside the body.

Both portions of the vehicle are built to conform to TIR and Crown Lock Regulations.

Self contained independent burglar alarm systems are also fitted together with a sophisticated anti-hijack device supplied and installed by Silcox and Smith of Birmingham.
