-4,4) collect and equip so admirably these successive columns of steamers, and we also reiterate a word of congratulation to Fodens, Ltd., for this official and very material recognition by the Government of the special capacity which these famous steamers have for handling certain classes of load under certain conditions in the present Continental operations. We learn from our own correspondents that these machines have already been engaged on special work and are giving excellent results, but we are not at liberty more closely to identify their class of employment.

The steam wagon is a peculiarly British production. In no other country in the world, with the exception of a few spasmodic attempts in France, has the type developed, whereas here in Great i Britain t not only handles effectively very heavy unit loads, but, since the possibility of equipping them with rubber tires, it has effectively challenged the petrol wagon in many classes of employment. We are particularly gratified as a journal to have been able to record this decision to use steam wagons, to which the country owes so much in civilian life, as a part of the very thorough organization of the Army Service Corps in the field.
