Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• by Miles Brignall Operators who fill up at Raglan Services on the M40 are being advised to check their fuel bills very closely by one Hereford haulier who claims he was charged for more diesel than his tank holds.

However, the operator of the site is moving quickly to allay fears that anything is wrong with its fuel pump by closing it and ordering an immediate investigation.

The driver, who prefers not to be named, pulled into the bunkered fuel site near Monmouth on 14 November. Although the tank was a quarter full, he started to fill up but became wary when he got to 350 litres and there was room for more. "I've been driving this truck for several years now and the most I have ever got in it before is 320 litres and that's when it is empty I told the woman in the office there was a problem with the pump and made her note down the details," he says.

A spokesman for Little Chef, which operates the site, issued this statement: 'We were deeply concerned to learn from a customer that a pump on the diesel bunkering facility at Monmouth North appeared to be working incorrectly by apparently registering delivery of an erroneous amount of fuel. All our fuel pumps are rigorously maintained and regularly inspected by Trading Standards but the pump was immediately closed down. It has been checked by us and by an independent firm of pump engineers and has been found to be in perfect mechanical order, "In the meantime, the pump will remain inoperative until another company of engineers has had the opportunity to inspect and test the underground pipework between the pump and the storage tank. "

In addition the company's fuel supplier Keyfuels is only charging the haulier for 75% of the fuel supplied that day.
