MORE REDUNDANCIES and lay-offs were announced by Britis manufacturers this week, while brighter news came from L. Gar( ner and Sons whose workforce returned to work on Wednesda following a seven week sit-in.

The Gardner workforce started their strike in protest at the company's proposed 590 named redundancies. Following negotiations last week and a mass meeting on Tuesday of this week, the 2,350 employees overwhelmingly accepted a n turn to work.

Gloomier news comes fron Dodge, York Trailer and Perkin: Engines. Dodge Trucks is tc shed 100 jobs at Luton and 341 at Dunstable due to the "seven recession."
