Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE THIRD Paris to Dakar Rally for 4x4 vehicles takes place between January 1 and January 20, 1981. CM was involved in the 1980 event when 11 commercial vehicles took part.

The route from Paris is across the Mediterranean through Algeria, Mali, Haute Volta, The Ivory Coast and into Senegal. Before heading for Timbuctu on an arduous route, there is a rest period at Gao in Mali.

Vehicle preparation and other costs were estimated at £6,000 last year. The prize for the rally winner is 24,000 French francs (£2,300).

CM readers can enter the event in 1981. Details are available from the sponsors, TSO, 22 Rue Duban, 75016 Paris, or by phone from the UK 010-33-1525-76-47. Last year's cv entry included a Leyland Marathon — drive'n by a French team — three Sonacambes from Algiers, and three Renaults — Renault also provided the back up facilities.

Next year's back up is to be provided by Lada.
