THE substitution of buses for trains at Lytham St. Anne's is foreshadowed by the announcement that the transport manager, Mr. J. C. Fairchild, has been authorized to apply for road service licences in respect of services along the existing tramways, and to obtain prices and particulars of additional vehicles.

LEAMINGTON CO.'S CAPITAL TO BE HALVED.

I N the Chancery Division this week, Mr. Justice Bennett confirmed a reduction of the capital of the Leamington and Warwick Transport Co. from £100,000 to £50,000 by repaying to the shareholders £50,000 in excess of the company's needs.

It is stated that the capital consisted of 2,500 preference shares of £10 each and 7,500 ordinary shares of £10 each.

"EASTERN COUNTIES" MAINTENANCE SYSTEM.

THE system of maintenance employed by the Eastern Counties Omnibus Cc., Ltd., which has a fleet of some 600 vehicles, was explained, last week, to members of Norwich Traffic Club, by Mr. H. N. Tuff, the company's assistant engineer.

Mr. Tuff remarked that maintenance could be classified under five headings, namely, cleaning, running repairs, and

dock, unit and body overhauls. In addition to drivers' reports upon defects, a check on vehicle condition is maintained by inspecting a certain number of machines every night.

Dock overhauls of all units are carried out at regular intervals, this work occupying five days of every week throughout the year. In addition, each vehicle undergoes a unit overhaul.

NEW MUNICIPAL MOVE

ON the ground that the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd., has not satisfactorily replied to certain complaints by the ,council, Brierley Hill Urban District Council has decided that, at the next meeting of the general purposes committee, the question of inaugurating a municipal motorbus service should be fully discussed.
