Proceedings Against Showmen.

Some months ago the High Court decided that a showman's living van, when drawn` as a trailer, renders the outfit liable to higher taxation under the Finance Act, 1920. Isle of Ely County Licensing Committee has decided that, if the statutory time limit has not expired, proceedings shall be instituted in cases which have been held in abeyance pending the High Court decision, Christmas Driving Hours.

On behalf of the following organizations, the Associates Committee of the -British Road Federation has applied to the Minister of Transport for a variation of the 11 hours', driving period, asking that it may be increased to 12 hours on December 18, 19, 20, 21, 23 and 24, 1935, the variation to apply only to drivers of C-licensedvehicles : -

Scottish Federation of Aerated Water Manufacturers and Bottlers Associations, Wholesale Distributors Association and Wholesale Produce Merchants Association.
