Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WITH USED VAN volumes looking seemingly 'healthy', buyers are becoming that bit more selective when it comes to bidding on vehicles with even the merest hint of damage that needs looking at.

Alex Wright, CV sales director at Manheim Auctions, says: "Our buyers tell us that physical condition is now a key driver.

"Supply levels allow buyers to exercise this choice to minimise reconditioning and repair costs, while optimising turnover. The damage issue is also being debated among our vendors, who are seeing higher, and in some cases, disproportionate levels of damage to unofficial contract extension vehicles. This has largely been driven by extended lead times.

"One reason could be that the operator adjusts their driving or loading styles in the knowledge their van is 'on the way out'.

"The market has been so strong over the past two years that damage repair costs have been factored in by buyers. But with a bigger emphasis being placed on end-of-life condition and a greater level of supply. the pendulum is starting to swing back the other way.•
