• An ultra-low-sulphur diesel is to be sold at 30 retail outlets throughout the UK following an agreement between the manufacturer and two distributors.
Greenergy International believes the deal with Minster Fuels and British Fuels (Oils) will increase demand among commercial operators.
Spokesman Andrew Hornibrook says demand for the fuel has doubled each year since it began being said in bulk from terminals on the River Thames and at Immingham on Humberside four years ago. "This tie-up will be particularly important for people requiring smaller volumes," he adds. Among its high profile users are The Body Shop and Sainsburys, which also sells it to motorists.
Although the fuel is up to 3p more expensive than conventional diesel, a lp cut in duty was promised in the last Budget, subject to approval from the European Commission. This is expected within the next month but may be overtaken by fuel increases predicted in June's Budget.
