Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

PRODUCTION of commercial vehicles I in April was the highest for that month in any year. Output was at the rate of 7,223 a week, giving a total for the month of 28,894. Exports amounted to 10,860 vehicles,. says the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Mr. J. M. A. Smith, president of the Society, said last Friday that the abolition of purchase tax on goods-vehicle chassis was expected to lead to even higher output.

According to figures issued by. the Board of Trade, the April output consisted of 27,525 goods and 1,369 passenger vehicles.. Exports totalled. 10,488 goods and 303 passenger vehicles. There is' a slight discrepaticY between the export figures issued by.the S.M.M.. and T. and the Board of Trade.'

THE National Committee on Road

Transport Education reported a larger number of candidates taking the Royal Society of Arts road transport examinations in 1958 than in the previous year. With the quality of work varying widely, papers on passenger operation were generally the best.

The committee observed that the number of students from the road haulage industry, who took the examination in 1958, was one tenth of the number who took it in the peak years of 1951-2. There had also been a decline in the number of London Transport students, but those from passenger companies had increased Steadily.

Enrolments for the 1958-9 sessions were fairly steady except in London where there had been a marked reduction.

MORE ORDERS FOR E.N.V.

AN improved demand for components and gears for commercial vehicles was reported by Mr. C. G. Twallin, chairman of E.N.V. Engineering Co., Ltd., to the shareholders on Monday. The upsurge applied also. to the subsidiary company, Eaton Axles, Ltd.

E.N.V. last year set up a new record in exports, he said. Further important long-term export contracts had been gained in the face, of keen international competition.
