INSTITUTE OF TRANSPORT VICEPRESIDENTS

VICE-PRESIDENTS of the Institute of Transport, elected to serve from October 1 are: Mr. A. F. R. Carling, an executive of the British Electric Traction Co., Ltd.; Mr. H. H. Crow, chairman and managing director of the Crow Carrying Co., Ltd.; Lord Douglas of Kirtleside, chairman, British European Airways; Mr. K. W. C. Grand, British Transport Commission; Sir Brian Robertson, chairman British Transport Commission and Mr. G. F. Sinclair, British Road Services.

. It was announced earlier that Mr. R. G. Grout, chairman and managing director of The General Steam Navigation Co., Ltd., had been elected as president of the Institute from October 1.

TRENT AND BARTON WANT FARE INCREASES

THE East Midland Traffic Commissioners will hear applications by the Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd., Derby, and Barton Transport, Ltd., Chilwell, for fare increases, at Nottingham on June 12. The companies seek to increase concession fares and those at present below the average.

They have stated that although a considerable number of services would be affected, fares would be raised only where they are too low under present conditions of operation. Many fares would remain unchanged as no general increase is being sought.

OBITUARY

WE regret to announce the death of Mr. Alan Piggott. Mr. Piggott joined Simms Motor Units, Ltd., in 1933 as personal aide to the present chairman, Mr. G. E. Liardet, and continued with the sales division until 1947, when he was appointed sales manager. Early 41 1957 Mr. Piggott became publicity manager, a position which he held until his death.
