AN application by Silver Roadways. Ltd., to Mr. A. H. Jolliffe, North Western Deputy Licensing Authority, at Liverpool; on Tuesday, was adjourned for lack of evidence. The company sought a new A licence for six vehicles in substitution for a special A licence.

They had three bases in—England, and in the matter of licensing they wished the Liverpool depot. to correspond with the other two depots, where most of the vehicles were operated on public A licence.

Mr. J. W. Gannicliffe, Liverpool manager of Silver Roadways, said his company carried all types of commodity all over the country. He submitted a document giving the licensing history of the company and a list of the destinafions of the vehicles and details of the traffic carried. • In cross-examination, Mr. G. P. Crowe, objecting for British Railways, contended that Silver Roadways must prove that the six vehicles were fully occupied and describe the type of traffic which they specifically had been carrying.

Mr. Ganniciiffe replied that he did not think such details would be of great assistance to anybody. The general picture was that they carried mainly sugar. out of Liverpool, but brought other commodities back. "We want to do anything, anywhere," he added.

Mr. Crowe asked that statistical evidence should be produced with regard to the ,operation of the six vehicles for three months, giving 'details of destinations and traffic carried.

Mr. A. Mace, for the applicants, said that—beCause Silver Roadways were a large company they were not asking for preference. He would produce the details which Mr.. Crowe required and in the meantime ask that the application should be adjourned.
