• MS Western has won a five-year/22m contract-hire deal to supply six tractors, 12 trailers and seven drivers to Blue Circle Cement's Plymstock works, near Plymouth.

The 38-tonne Leyland Daf 95s and flat-bed trailers will be used to distribute bagged cement to builder's merchants throughout Devon and Cornwall. They will be fuelled and maintained at the BRS's Western depot in Plymouth: the deal also includes a shunt unit.

Blue Circle will continue to handle powdered cement tanker distribution in-house.

BRS Western plans to open a new £3m transport service centre at Swindon by the end of October.

The company has also secured a five-year/21.5m contract with Parsons Chain, the Stourport-based chain manufacturer. The deal is aimed at streamlining Parsons' transport and distribution operations and involves supplying four 38tonne Mercedes tractor units, six tri-aide Montracon trailers and four drivers. BRS Western has appointed a dedicated con'tracts supervisor for the deal.
