Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BRIT1511 refrigerated lorry operators are being offered a possible increase in width limits, but it is less of a concession than applies in parts of mainland Europe.

Following pressure from operators which want to be able to accommodate 1,200nun wide pallets sideby-side in insulated semitrailers, the Department of Transport has offered to increase their permitted width from 2.5m to 2.55m.

"fhis concession is being offered along with an EECdirected move to exempt all vehicles on international journeys from the 12.2m semitrailer length limit (within the 15. Sin overall length limit) and to allow 22.5 tcmnes to he carried on a tri-axle bogie with maximum spacing of 1.3m, instead of 1.35m.

The width increase is the least sought by British operators and compares with the 2.6m width limit now permitted in the Benelux countries and likely to be adopted in France.

Freight Transport Association legal controller 1)avid Green told CM: "It is good that the DTp has recognised that there is a problem and that it is going to do something about it, but we have still to look around the corners and see what it offers."
