Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

tKINS ENGINES has sted over £30 million on !loping a new range of k engines.

he Phaser four-stroke, .d-cooled in-line range of ls comprises both foursix-cylinder units deping 67 to 134kW (9(1 to tp). They are designed for cles grossing between six 24 tonnes.

he range includes 1r:illy-aspirated turboged and turbocharged/in)oled units with a high ,7entage of parts corniality overall.

hat reduces part numbers 35 per cent over Perkins' ions engine ranges, the 6 and 6.354, which conti in production for the being.

he turbocharged and sixider engines also offer an gral plate oil cooler and spray cooled pistons, but the Quadram combustion em together with Bosch ry injection and low inerinjectors which has been

,n the credit in obtaining .e power and torque while icing fuel consumption, ssions and noise.

.esearch, using Laser ppler Anemometry to sure the motion of air in cylinder with the engine :ling, led to development the Quadram four-lobed ibustion chamber. A more thorough mix of fuel and air in the cylinder was achieved resulting in a shorter combustion delay period. A slower rise to a lower peak pressure reduces noise and stress in the engine.

Compared with the old 6.354 engine, the Phaser offers eight per cent better fuel economy, 13 per cent more power, an improvement of 17 per cent in torque and a noise reduction of 3dB(A).

The four-cylinder Phaser 90 is a naturally-aspirated engine aimed at vans and light trucks up to 7.5 tonnes. Like all Maser engines, its capacity is one litre per cylinder. It gives a maximum output of 65kW (87hp) at 2,800rpm and torque of 266Nm (196 lbft) at 1,50Orpm.

Phaser 110T is a turbocharged unit for delivery trucks up to 10 tonnes, producing 79kW (106hp) at 2,60Orpm and a peak torque of 3 5 4Nin (2 6 1 lbft) at 1,600rpin (all performance figures to BS AU141a).

The 120 Ti with air-to-air intercooling is a four-cylinder unit developing 89.5kW (120hp) at 2,60Orpm, with a maximum torque of 387Nm (285 lbft) at 1,600rpm. The 135, primarily for distribution vehicles up to 12 tonnes, is a six-cylinder unit designed for municipal and special vehicles and has an output of 98kW (31hp) at 2,800rpm and torque of 401Nin (296 lbft) at 1,600 rpm.

The 160T, which develops 119kW (160hp) at 2,600rpm, shares the same bore and stroke dimensions of 100/127mm. Its turbocharged six litres offer a little extra performance at 16 tonnes. At the top of the Phaser range, the 180Ti turbocharged and intercooled engine is designed to produce 134kW (180hp) at 2,600rprn and torque of 581Nm (429 lbft) at 1,600rpm for inter-city work with rigid trucks of 16 tonnes and combinations of up to 24 tonnes.
