THE HARBOURNE Group has accepted restrictions on operations from its Welling-. borough depot in order to appease residents.

The group applied for the renewal of its international licence for 27 vehicles and 54 trailers before Eastern Deputy Licensing Authority Cordelia Brock.

The application was opposed by Wellingborough Borough Council and there were representations from 12 residents.

Brock imposed conditions that, except in an emergency, vehicles be operated and maintained only between 6am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 12 noon on Saturdays with no operation or maintenance on Sundays, Christmas Day and public holidays. Routine maintenance is to be carried out in the workshop with the doors closed at all times.

The council received numerous complaints from 1983 about noise, particularly at unreasonable hours. There have also been complaints about nuisance from fumes.

Meetings between all parties have led to conditions being laid down which are ;ieceptahle to the council.

Linrys Davies, a spokesman for some of the residents, said the point had been reached when they had to make a stand.

Managing director William Osborne said the company had bent over backwards to assist the residents.
