A PASSENGER was apparently so astonished to meet a courteous Lothian Region bus driver that she gave him £1000. He first impressed her with his tactful but masterful handling of a truculent drunk. At their next meeting he excelled himself by paying the 15p fare of an elderly woman who could not find her bus pass and had no money.
The knight in shining armour is smiling Tony Gall, of Longstone depot, who characteristically is giving some of his wind
fall to an old folks' charity.
As his anonymous benefactor observed in a letter to the transport department: "It makes such a change to find a polite driver on one of your buses."
