Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

the oldest vehicle lifers from severe clutch judder when roving off from rest with a full load. This as persisted since a new clutch plate was tted; the plate was not badly worn and the futch generally was in good condition.

I am afraid that the judder will fracture the ears of the final drive or cause further liaft failures. Two half-shafts have frac'red in recent months. As the trouble canat be attributed to the clutch can you uggest any other cause and a remedy?

The most likely cause of clutch judder in -‘ your case is softening of the flexible ngine mountings or the fitting of an incorrect ipe of mounting. A flexibly mounted engine as a natural frequency of torsional vibration n its mountings and if a harmonic of this .equency matches the -snatch frequencyof le clutch during engagement, the amplitude f the latter may be increased by as much as hundredfold. No clutch provides a perfectly mooth take-up but unless snatch is amplified y oscillation of the engine in this way it will ot develop severe judder. Replacement of the )ountings should cure the trouble,
