OBITUARY

We record with regret the death of Mr. W. G. Wright.

Mr. Wright, who died in Crossley Hospital, Frodsham, near Chester. aged 87, was chief engineer to Crossville Motor Services from 1907 until his retirement in 1939. Sir Reginald Wilson (THC chairman) has been elected chairman of the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co. Ltd. he succeeds John Spencer Wills, who has resigned from the board following the completion of the purchase by the Transport Holding Company of the British Electric Traction group's equity shareholdings in various UK passenger road transport companies. Mr. Wills had been a director and chairman of the company since March 1946. F. K. Pointon has been appointed a director of the Birmingham company to fill the vacancy caused by resignation of Mr. Wills, and has been named managing director— a new appointment.

Harold Bridges, 68, is retiring as chairman and managing director, Bridges Transport Ltd., at the end of the month, after 47 years in road transport. He started the business at 21 in Lytham St. Annes, and apart from a six-month break in 1950/51 when the firm was nationalized, he controlled the business until it joined the Tayforth Group in 1966. A. Monighan, 32, succeeds Mr. Bridges as general manager. Mr. Monighan was formerly assistant general manager. Beck and Pollitzer (Road Transport) Ltd., London.

Colin Paterson, 35, who joined North Sea Ferries Ltd. in February, has been appointed UK and Eire manager.

Dr. W-T Lyn of King's College. london. and E. Valdanis and T. W. Biddulph, both late of CAV, Acton, share the 1967 Crompton-Lanchester Medal awarded annually for the best written technical paper or most outstanding service to the automobile division of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. Their papers were entitled "Unaided starting of diesel engines", and "The effects of physical factors on ignition delay".

Dawson T. Williams, 29, depot engineer for Ribble Motor Services Ltd. at Ambleside (17 vehicles) since 1966, has been appointed to a similar post at Preston (170 vehicles).

Reginald R. Cooper has been appointed rmnaging director, Jones Transport Services (Midlands) Ltd. Mr. R. I. Cooper is also managing director, Coopers Road Services Ltd.. Levett Motors (Bournemouth) Ltd. and H. Shaw (Haulage) Ltd. Graham R. Cooper and George Littmoden have been appointed to the board of Jones Transport Services {Midlands) Ltd., S. H. Fell and E. J. Farrell having resigned.

R. G. Roberts, 46. for 11 years traffic manager. City of Oxford Motor Services Ltd.. has been appointed to a similar post with Potteries Motor Traction Co. Ltd.
