Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A Nottinghamshire haulier is inviting owner-drivers to apply for a slice of £9m worth of business in the same week it made 10 drivers redundant at depots across the country.

Ian Veitch, managing director of Robsons Distribution and sister company Thompson Jewitt International, says Robsons can run more efficiently without the staff drivers because it is cutting transshipments between depots in favour of direct deliveries.

"We don't need as many drivers because we have cut out some of the depot trunking," says Veitch." But we are looking for owner drivers at Thompson Jewitt International, which is expanding."
