• EC officials are working on technical specifications proposals for all European CVs in time for 1992 and the SEM. They should be ready by mid-1990, but speed limiters and coupling devices will not be included.
At present, application of EC-wide standards at national level is optional, although countries are only obliged to admit vehicles from fellow EC states if they meet the EEC rules.
The Brussels Commission wants the EC norms to become compulsory by the 1 January 1993.
