• The trial of Phillips Tankers (Bulk Powders) Manchester and two of its directors, accused of offences of permitting drivers to exceed the hours limits and falsify tachograph charts, and the operation of untaxed vehicles, has been set for September by the Salford Magistrates.
The company has admitted eight offences of using vehicles without excise licences. However, it has denied two similar offences, five offences of failing to produce tachograph charts, 12 of permitting drivers to make false entries, two of permitting drivers to fail to use tachographs, and 20 of permitting them to drive excessive hours and take insufficient rest.
Director Peter Phillips denies 10 offences of aiding and abetting the company to use untaxed vehicles and five of permitting drivers to falsify charts. Director Neil Lightfoot denies seven offences of permitting drivers to falsify charts.
Six of the company's drivers have admitted a series of drivers hours and tachograph offences, including the falsification of charts. They will be sentenced after the trial of the company and its directors has been completed.
