Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Scania is revamping the engine range available for its 113 and 143 rigids and tractive units, with the 11-litre 310 and 340 diesels biting the dust. Two new versions of Scania's 320 and 360 diesels will replace them, featuring modified cylinder heads and improved fuel injection equipment.

Both of the new engines will be offered in the P113 tractive units, and the 320 will be available on the P113 M class 4x2 and 6x2 rigids.

The 320 diesel will offer 235kW (320hp) at 2,000rpm and a peak torque of 1,410 Nm. The 360's 267kW (363hp) power output rating is exactly the same as its predecessor, but its torque is raised to 1,590Nm (1,169lbft).

Scania has also announced that its P93ML 4 x 2 R 230 and its P93MT 4x2 R 230 trucks will run on 177.8mm (7 inch) front brake linings in future instead of 127min (5 inch) linings. From August, Scania will also introduce short brake linings with smaller surface areas to improve lining wear and improve heat dissipation.

Scania R-range sleeper cabs will have the option of side and rear windows in the future, whether single or double bunks are fitted; and the Scandanavian manufacturer has also announced that from next year, the cab tilt pump will be repositioned on the nearside of all Scalia commercial vehicles from the offside.

As predicted by Commercial Motor (15-21 June) the 346kW (464hp) version of the DSC14 engine will be introduced at the end of this year with Scania's Electronic Diesel Control Sys

tern for R143MA 4x2 and EL 6 x 2 models.

These chassis will be fitted with 295/80R 22.5 tyres and will be specified with a 3.27:1 drive axle ratio as standard.

In gears one to seven the EDC governor allows the engine to pull up to 2,100rpm to provide maximum acceleration and maximum power for hill In gear ratios eight to 10 the Scania's engine speed is restricted to 1,900rpm for improved economy.

Maximum torque for Scania's most powerful model is given as 1,931Nm (1,424 Ibft) at 1,25Orpm.

EDC also includes cruise control, precise engine speed control for PTOs and ignition key engine stop.

With the introduction of the 470, the current 450 engine will be replaced with a lowerpowered version of the turbocharged and charge-cooled 14.2-litre unit producing 297kW (404hp) at 1,900tpm and torque of 1,663Nm (1,2261bft) at 1,250rpm giving a more even spacing of power throughout the range.
