• Major food manufacturer Hazelwood has abandoned running its own transport operation in favour of a five-year deal agreed with Christian Salvesen's temperature-controlled division.
Under the arrangement, Christian Salvesen will buy most of Hazelwood's vehicles and run 12 of them in the livery of Hazelwood, and its subsidiary Ken Perrett.
Ken Perrett and a second subsidiary, Kaness Food Products, both based in Evesham, produce fresh produce including salads under a number of "own-name" labels. Christian Salvesen will be involved in the chilled distribution of this produce and fruit to wholesale markets and retailers' regional distribution centres nationwide.
Hazelwood is also building a new chilled warehouse at its Evesham site, and Christian Salvesen spokesman David Hill says the new contract includes the company having a part share in this facility.
