According to a report recently issued by the Department of Overseas Trade, motorbus services continue to make headway in Belgium , and during last year considerable developments in this form of passenger transport were recorded, both in the cities and in the country districts.
The Societe Nationale des Chemins de B36 Fer Vicinaux has adopted a scheme for a series of bus services to link up outlying districts with its network of light railways, and some of these have already been established.
At present the motor omnibus is being used in Belgium as an adjunct to the light railways and the electric tramways, with which it does not compete.
Although the light railway will probably always prove of value for transporting goods, it is doubtful for how long it and, in a still greater degree, the electric tramways in the cities will be able to resist the competition of the more flexible and speedier 'WADS of passenger transport provided by the motor omnibus.
