• In our Foden 4500 roadtest iCM8-14 July) we suggested that the Scania 143.500 we tested last year (CM 6-12 Aug 1992) was not fitted with a Euro-1 engine. The Scania DSC14-09 vee-eight was launched in 1991 and was the first Euro-1 engine to go on sale in the UK.

Light and heavy

• Continental is changing the marking system on its commercial vehicle tyres over 17.5 inches. There will be two designations, light (L) and heavy (H). Steer and drive axle tyres will be marked HS, LS, HD and LD respectively, while trailer tyres will be marked HT.

Mini tracker

• Rockwell International has launched a Global Positioning System (GPS) for automatic vehicle location systems. It claims that the credit-card-sized NavCore MicroTracker is the smallest, lowest powered receiver in its class. Designed for use with low-cost passive antennas, accuracy is up to 100 metres and power consumption as low as 670 milliwatts.
