nOUGLAS CORPORATION'S Bill 1--/ to confer enabling powers to operate motorbuses in an area two miles outside the borough has beea . passed by a narrow majority in the House of Keys. It will become law after it has received the Royal Assent, as has been announced in the Tynwald Court.

The Bill will allow the corporation to apply to the Isle of Man Highway ahd Transport Board for licences to operate. outside the borough. As reported in The Commercial Motor" on June 10, it was strenuously opposed by Isle of Man Road Services, Ltd., Isle of Man Railway, Manx Electric Railway, Ltd., and the Isle of Man Hackney Owners' Hon. That decision rested entirely in the hands of the Licensing Authority,

COUNCILS TEMPT OPERATORS TO LEAVE CATER

A CCORDING to the Passenger 1-AVehicle Operators Association, there is an increasing tendency among local authorities to urge operators and drivers to defer the departures of coaches from certain destinations. Brighton Corporation, for instance, has told operators that there is no restriction requiring that they must leave Brighton by 6 p.m.

The P.V.O.A. has informed the corporation that all licensed service coaches have to depart according to their scheduled timetables, and that it is an offence to-do otherwise. Moreover, the hours of employtnent of drivers are governed, and operators must arrange departures from seaside resorts to fit in with the provisions of Section 19 of the Road Traffic Aet, 1930.

Requests by the police or any other local authority to depart from the scheduled timetable attached to .a road service lieence do not relieve the Operator from his legal liability.
