Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

By Roger Brown TRANSPORT BOSSES have urged the Government to inject more money into road improvement projects in a bid to kickstart the economy.

Akin Ferguson, managing director of Ferguson's Transport, which is based in Washington,Tyne and Wear, believes the North-East could be handed a jobs boost if the Government committed itself to widening the Al to two lanes between Morpeth and Berwickupon-Tweed.

He argues: "We now need the Government to start investing in the future. Things like roads and power stations are just the right kind of investment that will bring benefits on the upside of the economic cycle. Publicly announcing the investments now can give hope for the future.

Meanwhile, Steve Prince, owner of Steve Prince Transport in Braintree, Essex, has also called for immediate investment from the Government to dual the stretch of the A120 between Braintree and Marks Tey, in Essex. The road is a vital one for trucks heading to and from Harwich port.

"The part of the A120 between Braintree and Marks Tey can be terribly slow for trucks because there's only one lane," he adds.

Pim De Lange, North Sea area director, Stena Line, says: "Investment in the A120 would be good for the economic development of the area.

"We have been talking about this for years and nothing has been done."

As part of the Government's Pre-Budget Report in November 2008, transport secretary Geoff 1-loon announced that planned road upgrades to the A46, A180/A160, and Al2 would be brought forwards to stimulate the economy.
