AN ESSEX TRUCK driver has been sent to prison for four months by Harlow magistrates for driving while disqualified. Simon King, of Whitewaits,Harlow, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, deception, and using a vehicle without insurance. He asked for 12 offences of driving while disqualified and 12 of driving without insurance to be taken into consideration.

Anthony Ostrin, prosecuting for Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA). said that last June traffic examiners were holding an organised check when King arrived in a rigid HGV towing a two-axle trailer. A check of DVLA records indicated King had been banned from driving for three years in May 2002.

When subsequently interviewed, King admitted he had been disqualified more than a year previously and that he had been driving both before the checli on 4 June and, in particular, on a number of occasion: since. He also admitted that when disqualified he hac retained his licence, telling the magistrates at the timc that he had lost it.

In December 2002 he had applied for and beer given a job as a truck driver. -This was a total an( absolute disregard for the safety of others by drivini while disqualified." said Ostrin.

"It was a cavalier approach to the court... and a Mach. iavellian attitude towards an employer by handing hirr a driving licence which... would indicate an entitlemeni to drive when the defendant was disqualified."

Andrew Clowser, for King. said that he had r natural instinct to make money for his unwell father.
