Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Esso has launched Esso Index, a high specification pan-European oil condition monitoring service.

The necessary oil samples are taken from specific points within the engine and power train to provide fleet engineers with all the information they need to assess engine and component condition.

A report should be available within 48 hours of Esso receiving the sample. Contamination or changes in the oil indicate whether the equipment is running at optimum efficiency, and can pinpoint also specific operational problems such as coolant leaks, fuel dilution, faulty air filtration or abnormal wear rates.

Results are said to be easy to understand: Esso provides advice on what action needs to be taken if there is a problem.

In this way, says Esso, downtime can be minimised and lubricant consumption can also be reduced by finetuning the oilchange intervals to suit the vehicle's service conditions.
