Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Frankfurt Motor Show, which normally includes one of the largest Continental displays of commercial vehicles, will not be held this year. It had been scheduled for September 16 to 26.

The decision not to hold the 1971 shoW (it is biennial and no statement has been made about the prospects of 1973) was taken by the German motor manufacturing industry's federation because of the effect of sharply rising costs. The German industry is responsible for the finances of the exhibition, which is said to cost over £5m to stage.

Even if there is a resumption in 1973, this decision will mean the complete absence of a major West German commercial vehicle exhibition fora period of four years.
