iT is reported by our correspondent in Colombo that the Ceylon Transport Board will have a fleet of 400 new buses on the road by the end of next month, These will all he Fiats of the 0 and E type, the former carrying 36 passengers and the latter 28 passengers, and are being supplied under the purchase agreement between Ceylon and Italy whereby 756 buses of these two types will he built. Already 14 Fiats arc in service on rural routes and are reported to have proved very successful.

More Rural Services Threatened: Villagers in the Matlock and Bakewell areas of North Derbyshire may lose their bus services if fuel tax is not removed or reduced, warns County CUL J. W. Wooliscroft, managing director of J, U. Wooliscroft and Sons, whose Silver Motor Services buses have served the communities there for 45 years.

Wooliscroft has stated ttat the crisis point " is rapidly getting closer and has written urgent letters to local rvl.P.s seeking action on the matter.

IVIiddleshrough Requirements: Middlesbrough transport committee is to increase the annual allocation to the renewals fund from £46,000 to l:,60.000. During the next four years about 40 new buses will be required as replacements.

(Above) The prototype Daimler Roadliner single-deck bus exhibited at Earls Court last September has now gone into normal service with Potteries Motor Traction Co. Ltd. jar assessment purposes. It has been operated on a variety of services since the New Year, and is seen here in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
