Newcastle Bu.snien Press for Bonuses: Newcastle upon Tyne Corporation bus drivers and conductors have renewed their application for bonuses, based on the undertaking's revenue. Ald. E. Corrigan. chairman of the transport committee, commenting on the matter, said that if the employees could bring forward any method that would " improve productivity ", the comtnittee would certainly consider a bonus payment deriving from it Barton Take-over Barton Transport Ltd.. the Chilwell (Notts) bus and coach firm, has acquired the bus business of Lester Bros.. They are part of an order for 55 Worldmasters of which 30 will be fitted with M.C.W. bodywork; the remainder will be bodied in Yugoslavia. 'Northern Operators' Joint Venture: The name of Shearing's Tours (Manchester) Ltd. has been changed to Shearing's Holidays Ltd. and the company has started joint working with Jacksons (Altrincham) Ltd. from headquarters at Moss Lane, Altrincham, Cheshire. More than 20 coaches will be available for the companies' slimmer operations this year. The first two of an order for six Panorama 52-seaters on Bedford 'AL chassis were handed over by Plaxtons (Scarborough) Lid. to the operators recently.

More A.E.C. Buses for Portugal: A.E.C. Ltd, has received a contract from Uniao de Transportadores Para lmtortacao E Comerao Ltd, of Lisbon for 156 sets of Reliance underfloor-engine bus running units, 48 complete Reliance chassis and 15 Swift rear-engine chassis. The Reliance running units will be incorporated into integrally-built bodies, whilst the Swifts are the first examples of this new rear-engined, single-deck chassis to be sold overseas.

Northampton Losses: Northampton Town Council was informed at its January meeting that 18m. passengers have been lost to the Corporation bus services since 1946 and money is being lost at the rate of between £300 and £350 a week. With 'everrising costs. the Council now proposes to reduce the frequency of certain buses in the hope of saving about 12.000 a year.
