MR. H. GLEDHILL, Of Ossett, has been electedchairman of the Leeds Section of the Motor Agents' Association, whilst Mn. F. H. DUTSON, of Frank Dutson, Ltd., the Leeds commercial-vehicle specialist, becomes vice-chairman.

MR. ROBERT FRASER SMITH, general manager of the Glasgow municipaltransport department, retired last week. He is the last of the original staff formed in 1894, when the corporation took over the tramways service from a private company. He became general manager five years ago. At a meeting of the corporation transport committee, a few daysgo, Mr. Smith was complimented on reaving the transport undertaking free of debt—tbe entire capital debt was kepaid nine months ago—and ' for the manner in which be has tackled war-time difficulties in the department. MR. ERIC R. L. FITZPAYNE, B.Sc., ,assistant manager, succeeds Mr. Smith.

COL. ARTHUR J ERRETT, M.INsr.T., who is controller of transport for Lewis's,. Ltd., of Liverpool and other towns, has been unanimously elected president-elect of the C.M.U.A. He is, of course, well known in connection with that Association, having been a member for many years and president in 1936-37. Amongst the important offices he has held are:—Vice-president of the Nation tii Safety First Association (now the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents), vice-chairman of the International Federation of Con1mercial Motor Transport Organizations, and vice-chairman of the Associates Committee of the British Road Federation.
