Ungrudging Letters of Acknowledgment and Congratulation from Manufacturers.

The announcement that success had attended our efforts in Australia, to the end that the duty of 20 per cent, ad valorem on steam-wagon chassis should be abolished, has been received with a chorus of approval amongst manufacturers. We do not doubt that it will be equally acceptable to intending buyers in the Australian Commonwealth, for they will thus secure the advantage of lower price when making purchases, and be put upon equal terms with competing owners of petrol-driven vehicles. It was only last week that we were able to announce, on the receipt of a cable from our resident correspondent in Sydney, the decision of the Commonwealth Government.

We quote from letters :— Alley and MacLellan, Ltd.

" heartily congratulate you upon the result of your splendid efforts. We trust that the possibility of equal competition will lead to many steam-wagon orders from Australia being placed in Great Britain,"

(Signed) S. E. ALLEY, Director.

Charles Burrell and Sons, Ltd.

"We are very pleased to hear such a good result of your labours in getting the duty on steam wagons abolished in the Australian Commonwealth."

(Signed) H. J. BLIRRELT,

upon all steam motor-wagon makers in the United Kingdom, and I shall not forget to give you the fullest possible credit for it wherever occasion may arise."

(Signed) STEPHEN GARRETT: Director.

Mann's Patent Steam Cart and Wagon Co., Ltd.

Our wagons are in such extended use there, and we have such a steady business with Australia, that we shall be exceedingly pleased to have any advantage in the matter of duties which will help to extend our connection."
