'EVERYBODY who fails to attend a public inquiry is required to give an explanation within seven days!"
This was the ruling of Scottish LA Mr. L. A. Wells in Perth on December 19, when nine objectors, their witnesses, and their advocates appeared in answer to an application for a B licence variation by Mr. Thomas Simpson, of Stanley, Perthshire. Mr. Simpson was not present.
"No attendance—no evidence, no evidence—no grant; application refused", said Mr. Wells. He expressed his sympathy to those who had been inconvenienced, adding that Mr. Simpson would be required to explain his nonattendance in writing.
