This was arranged by the Midland regional director of the Ministry of Fuel. because railway wagons had been held no by recent bad weather and coal merchants had insufficient vehicles of their own to deliver stocks at the wharves

V.P.I. OUSTS PHOSPHATING THE use of Shell V.P.I.-coated paper in export packaging has proved so successful that an expensive phosphatins plant. which has been in use for less than a year, is being dismantled by the Austin Motor Co.. Ltd.

Tests carried out by the concern revealed that much time and expense were saved. The V.P.I. method cost one-third less than phosphating or oiling, but, like other anti-corrosive treatments, was not proof against water actually entering packages, the remedy for which was greater packaging protection.

BIG JUMP IN EXEMPT VEHICLES

ME:W registrations for September 11 showed a big jump in the exempt. vehicle class to 2.138, as against 612

in August. Of these. 1,738 were Government-owned petrol vehicles.

The overall total for the month was slightly up, the figure for September being 12,463 and for August 11.192. New registrations for the n'ne months to September totalled 120.155. The table below gives the details. WILL RAIL TRAFFIC DECLINE?

CAPITAL REDUCTION

I N the Chancery Division, last week, Mr. Justice Roxburgh confirmed a reduction of the capital of Oswald Tillotson, Ltd., Burnley, a nationalized company, from £450.000 to £353,500 by returning 19s. 6d. on each of the company's 100.000 .£1 preference shares.
