Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE proposals regarding wages have now been issued by the Road Haulage Central Wages Board. Further notice will be given if and, when they are Confirmed and made effective. The notice is entitled R.H. (17), and will be posted up, where required, until January 12, 1945.

The suggested increases concern paragraph 1 (a), (b) and (c) of the previous notice, R.H. (16), and they are per week of 48 hours:—(a) Workers with London Area home depot, (i) drivers, under 21, of vehicles carrying 1 ton or less :—Under 18, 2s. 6d.; 18 and under 21, 4s. (ii) All other drivers, 45. (iii) Mates on steam wagons, 4s. (iv) Statutory attendants under 18, 4s. (v) Workers other than the above, under 18, 2s. 6d.; 18 or over, 4s.

(b) Workers outside the London „Area (other than those on long-distance service rates), (i) Drivers under 21 of vehicles carrying 30 cwt. or less:—Under 18, 2s. 6d.; 18 and under 21, 4s. (ii) All others, 4s. (iii) Statutory attendants under 18, 4s. (iv) Workers other than above, under 18, 2s. 6d.; 18 or over, 4s.

(c) Workers on long-distance service rates specified in paragraph 1 (c) of R.II.(16):—(i) Drivers, 4s. (ii) Statutory attendants under 18, 4s. (iii) Workers other than those specified above, under 18, 2s. 6d.; 18 or over, 4s.

As regards overtime, it is suggested that paragraph 12 (a) (vi) of R.H. (14) be amended to read: " Time worked in any week in excess of the 48 hours com prising the guaranteed week."

That the wards, " On any day (other than Sunday) . . Time-anda-quarter " be deleted from sub-paragraphs (a) (i) and (ii) of paragraph 13 on page Got R.H.(16).

That the words " (daily or weekly) " be inserted after the words " eight hours of overtime" in lines 3 and 5 of sub-paragraphs (a) (i) and (ii) of paragraph 13, page 6, of R.H. (16). That paragraph 14 of R.H. (14) be deleted.

" Concerning grading in England and Wales, it is intended that paragraph 25 of R.H. (14) be amended to provide for regrading from grade two to grade one of the Urban District of Penarth. Glamorgan.

It is intended that the provisions of Notices RA-L(14) and R.H.(16) shall apply, subject to above amendments.
