FARN WORTH-based road hauliers, Hipwood & Grundy Ltd have extended their operation's by moving into the warehousing •and distribution field. The company has acquired a 24,000 square feet warehouse Kersley, near Bolton, where break-bulk, storage and distribution operations will be carried out.
hi addition, a fast parcels distribution service is being set up in the London area, based on Hipwood's existing London depot. Two-thirds of the available space in the new warehouse has already been taken by two major customers.
GLOBE Express, a new forwarding 'company specialising in groupage to Europe and the Middle Eat, has been set up by Cawthorn Holdings. ,Based at Birtley, Newcastle upon Tyne, Globe Express Claims it can deliver a load up to 3 tons within a radius of 200km inside 24 hours of the consignment arriving at the European entry port. It is establishing groupage services to Rotterdam, Paris, Brussels, Milan and Lisbon With onward internal distribution, and services to the Middle East. .
THE WORK carried on by the Home Office with the object of extending regulatory controls over the conveyance of hazardous substances by road has been transferred to the Health and Safety Executive, where it is being studied in relation to the Health and Safety at Work Act.
