Centurion Logistics director gets thumbs up from DTC

NORTH WESTERN Deputy Traffic Commissioner (DTC) Simon Evans says he believes the wife of the former boss of liquidated haulier Mike Spence Ltd will "take her responsibilities seriously" as director of new company Centurion Logistics.

The DTC told a Warrington public inquiry (PI) that Michelle Spence "fully understood" her new role as "guiding mind" of the new operation, based in Risley, Cheshire.

The PI was considering an application from Centurion for four vehicles and five trailers, with Michelle Spence as director and Mike Spence as transport manager.

However. Evans granted the firm a reduced 0-licence for two vehicles and five triiilers, on the condition that Centurion complies with maintenance and financial undertakings.

Mike Spence had been director of Warrington-based Mike Spence Ltd, which folded last year with large debts.

Michelle Spence said the new firm did not intend to over-expand as the old one had, but planned to grow steadily through developing work with existing customers.

The DTC said he believed the smaller scale of the operation would "enable control to be maintained" and that an agreement with Manchester maintenance firm L& P had given him "reassurance
