• Tayside Police are investigating how a Safeway HOY came to rip the side off a cottage at Brechin in Angus last week.
The Scania 114 refrigerated artic was on an early morning delivery run when it came off an access road on a bend. ft smashed through a stone wall before hitting one cottage and wrecking the extension of another.
Falling debris covered the lady occupant as she lay
in bed, but she escaped with shock and bruising. Her neighbours, who were leaving for work, were showered with rubble and their windows were smashed.
Emergency services put
out a fire under the tractive unit and freed the driver who was only feet away from a gas pipe ruptured in the crash.
The driver was treated for minor injuries and shock.
